Dangers on the Internet

I chose "Identity, Privacy, & Safety" for a couple reasons.  I feel that it will be beneficial to others that I inform them of the dangers on the internet as I continue through this blog.  I also feel that I will be benefitted as well as I learn about this issue.  I am a frequent Facebook user and have used other various sites that are at risk of potential threats of the Internet.  Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, and AIM are sites that I am familiar with.  All these sites have private information about their users available to the public.  This puts people in danger of having their identities stolen or having their information given to online predators and bullies.
Digital dossier (any personal information presented to people online or any digital form) are sites such as the ones listed above.  These sites possess digital tattoos (any information presented to people online that can never be permanently removed even after being deleted) that can cause the most harm to users of these sites.  Users of sites such as the ones mentioned, start at a young age.  This is extremely dangerous because young children are not aware of the dangers of the Internet and are more apt to put as much information about themselves as is asked of them.  Although the Internet can be a fun place for kids to play, a resourceful place for students to do homework, and a convenient place to keep in touch with friends, it can also cause much harm to a person's life and sometimes never be fixed.

  1. This is very true! Do you have any instances that you know of that predators have tried to harm one's life? Someone stole my mom's identity just from her not shredding somethings that had some personal information on it out of our trash can. The internet can be hacked easily. Hopefully that won't happen to our generation if we stay aware. Good luck with your Blog assignment.
